Maguire To Stay As Captain - Erik Ten Hag Press Conference

Harry Maguire is to stay as Man United captain as Erik Ten Hag announces during his second club press conference.

The Dutch manager conducted a press conference earlier today ahead of the club’s first pre-season game against rivals Liverpool on Tuesday.

“Harry Maguire is the captain. He’s an established captain, he’s achieved a lot of success, so I don’t doubt this issue.”

Many fans thoughts the arrival of the new boss would mean a change in captainacy but the £80m defender will remain with the armband for the coming season.

“HE IS NOT FOR SALE”

This was not the only talking point from this morning’s press conference.

Ten Hag spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo and his desires to leave the club this summer;

“Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale, he’s in our plans and we want success together.”

He also talked about new signing Tyrell Malacia and what he can bring to the team;

“He has the profile of a modern full-back. Defending good and tough to beat and in offence really good, that’s why.”

Malacia is now the fourth left-back on the books at Man United alongside Luke Shaw, Alex Telles and Brandon Williams.

As usual with a manager’s pre-season press conference, questions about transfer activity were fired at Ten Hag;

“We want to have the right players. We have a really good squad, we’re working on developing our way of play and if the opportunity is there, we will strike.”

He was then asked a more direct transfer question about the midfield position and Frenkie De Jong;

“Definitely we are searching for players in the midfield and also in offence we are still looking for players.

“I never talk about players who are not under contract at Man United, players at different clubs.

“I cannot tell you anything about this issue.”

His parting words were in reference to the United fans and his feeling towards them;

“I feel really excited. I knew that Man United has a fantastic fan base, but that’s only what I’ve heard and seen from far.

“We’re really looking forward to tomorrow’s game, we know they (Thai Fans) will all support us.”

Man United play Liverpool at 14:00 in Bangkok tomorrow.
