Man Utd Player Ratings VS. Sheffield United
Anthony Martial stole the headlines and blasted home Manchester United’s first Premier League hat-trick since Robin van Persie in April 2013 but how did the rest of the players do in this dominating 3-0 victory VS Sheffield United. Here’s my player ratings for Manchester United VS Sheffield United. Agree or Disagree? Get commenting below with your player ratings for the game!
David De Gea – 6 out of 10
Our Spanish shot stopper really didn’t have much to do in the game against the Blades which he will be over the moon about after committing an error last time out against Spurs. Nothing to write home about. Good.
Luke Shaw – 7 out of 10
A much better and consistent display over the length of the game from Luke Shaw compared to the last game. He made great forward overlapping runs and played a multitude of nice passes going forward while being solid defensively. More please!
Victor Lindelof – 7 out of 10
Lindelof’s best display for a while. He won some key areal battles in the opening gambit of the game when Sheffield United were still in it and generally didn’t put a foot wrong. His plight was made easier by the low ebb of an early defeated Sheffield United attack. Good display Victor.
Harry Maguire – 6 out 10
Made one fantastic key challenge amongst a quiet performance but that’s a good thing after his calamity to allow Bergwijn passed him against Spurs. Solid as a slab. Much better performance from our captain but not a whole lot to do.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 8 out of 10
Another faultless performance from AWB both defensively and offensively. His fantastic bit of skill to get a yard on the defender and wonderful vision to snipe the ball into the feet of Anthony martial for his 2nd goal just shows that Aaron is not just a defensive beast but really does have some legs as an attacking wing back also. Brilliant stuff from Mr Dependable.
Nemanja Matic – 7.5 out of 10
What an excellent performance by Matic ticking things over for United and being that calming influence required to allow the likes of Bruno & Pogba the freedom to commit to attack. Matic has perhaps given Solskjaer a real idea of a team now as he played like the perfect foil for Pogba to allow him to do his thing and the Serbian even managed to bomb forward and help with a number of attacks in advanced positions. Really good game from Matic.
Paul Pogba – 9 out of 10
Very high praise for Pogba indeed but it’s deserved in my opinion. His first game back starting in United’s midfield and it’s like he’s been revitalised with his time away from United’s first team. His creative qualities were apparent to see from the off laying several chances on a plate for his team mates which should have been taken and he finished the game with the most chances created with 4 goal scoring opportunities laid on by our World Cup winning Frenchman. I hope this is the sign of things to come and Pogba will continue in this vein as he’s been a breath of fresh air since coming back into the team and this performance was one of his best pulling the strings in a United shirt and he managed to overshadow the immense Bruno. Shame Rashford couldn’t finish off that delicious chip Pogba offered him. Pogback!
Bruno Fernandes – 6.5 out of 10
By Bruno’s very high standards in a red shirt so far this was a quiet game for the Portuguese international. Having said that, he still managed to create and was patient with his play and generally worked and harried in the hole for United throughout, combining well once again with Pogba and generally helping Manchester United’s attack run riot. This is his quietest game for United so far for me and he was still able to influence the game and help his side to a 3 nil victory.
Marcus Rashford – 8 out of 10
A very impressive performance by Marcus Rashford without getting on the score sheet which he should have done after missing an open goal that was gifted to him by Tony Martial as well as not being able to finish a sumptious chip from Paul Pogba that was begging to be buried. We must forgive him for the misses because the first Man Utd goal was created out of nothing by Marcus as he won the ball back in Sheffield’s penalty box and proceeded to leave 3 defenders for dust with a wonderful touch and burst of pace, executing a fantastic pass into Anthony Martial for the opener. His general wing play was menacing on the left for the Red devils throughout and the Sheffield United defenders would have been happy to see the back of him as he was a constant danger with his pace and unpredictably cutting inside and out. He may not have gotten on the score sheet but his overall performance was good enough to also provide the assist for the 3rd goal and end the game with 2 assists for his team mates. Fantastic display by Marcus let’s hope his eye for goal returns in the next game as we should have put the game to bed a lot earlier with Rashford’s missed opportunities. This lad is going to be one of the world’s best sooner or later…
Anthony Martial – 10 out of 10
‘A certain je ne sais quoi’ is what I think of when analysing Anthony’s game against the Blades. He had a very elusive and pleasing quality of play throughout! What can you say. A faultless centre forward performance sniping 2 goals near the 6 yard box like a veteran Ruud Van Nistelrooy and climaxing in capping off a classic Manchester goal for our third and to seal the first Hat-trick for Man Utd for 7 years. His intelligence in this position was unquestionable yesterday as he made runs in behind and across Sheffield’s defenders with such ease it was almost embarrassing for the usually good Sheffield back line. The first goal sums this up, a proper centre forward goal nipping in at the 6 yard box and finishing a wicked Rashford pass. He displayed real intelligence with his play for the 2nd goal, hanging back in a pocket of space in between Sheffield United’s players waiting for the chance of a ball which duly came from the willing Wan-Bissaka. He finished basically everything in this game and the smile on his face told the story of what was easily his best match for Manchester United since becoming our number 9. He even managed to lay an absolute sitter on a plate for his mate Marcus too which was unfortunately wide of the mark. A real homecoming performance for Tony, not just because it’s the first game back at old trafford but it felt like he has finally found his home as the spearhead of United’s attack with this display. Merci Anthony! Merci! A faultless performance from our striker can only receive full marks. 10/10.
Mason Greenwood – 6.5 out of 10
Another solid display by Mason. At 18 years of age he doesn’t look out of place one bit in Manchester United’s starting XI and even seems to have packed on a little muscle since lockdown. He had a positive impact on the right for United and outshined Daniel James again. I think Solskjaer will stick with Mason largely on the right based on his last 2 games until a replacement such as Jadon Sancho can be brought in to further strengthen. Mason Greenwood is 18 years old. Madness. Lot’s to come from him and this was another solid game in a comfortable win for the young talent.
