Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been sacked as Manchester United manager following the club’s 4-1 defeat to Watford on Saturday.

Manchester United have endured a rotten run of form only taking 3 points from their last 15 available with heavy losses to Liverpool, Leicester, Manchester City and Watford.

Michael Carrick is set to take charge of the next few games as the club look to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.

Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna are set to stay as coaches per Michael Carrick’s request for them to help him out as backroom staff.

Darren Fletcher is also set to stay as part of the interim setup with cruical games against Villarreal and Chelsea on the horizon.

Manchester United released the official statement earlier today that read the following.

“Manchester United announces that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as manager.

“Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with deep regret that we have reached this difficult decision.

“While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.

“Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as manager and our very best wishes for the future.

“His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and manager who gave us many great moments.

“He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family.”

The statement ended with the announcement of Michael Carrick taking interim charge.

While there are no concrete rumours about who the next Man United manager is going to be, there are many options.

Sky Sports believes Mauricio Pochettino remains the club’s first choice while other sources suggest the club have accelerated their efforts to persuade Zinedine Zidane to come to the club despite his wife reportedly not wanting to live in Manchester.

Pochettino, as well as names like Erik Ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers, are all tied down to clubs and Man United will have to wait til the summer to secure one of their signatures.

Reports are circulated that either Laurent Blanc or Ralf Rangnick are also considered options for manager on an interim basis.

Current Spanish national manager Luis Enrique is also in consideration with rumours suggesting Cristiano Ronaldo is pushing for the former Barcelona man.

Antonio Conte, who was favourite to replace Solskjaer after the Liverpool defeat, has since become Spurs manager.
