Derby County 1-2 Manchester United: Report
Manchester United kicked off their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 win over Derby County at Pride Park.
The squad was thin due to players returning from the international break, so we got to see some academy products in the lineup.
United took the lead in the 17th minute. Tahith Chong showed great determination in stealing the ball from Derby’s Max Bird and after his initial shot was saved he dispatched the ball into the empty net.
Chong is set to spend next season on loan at Birmingham City.
Facundo Pellistri scored United’s second, as the Uruguayan showed great footwork to round the keeper and slot the ball home in the second half.
Colin Kazim Richards pulled a goal back for the hosts with a thunderous long-range strike which beat Lee Grant as United held on for the win.
From a United perspective, it was great to see youngsters such as Will Fish, Joe Hugill and Hannibal Mejbri build up minutes as they look to make an impact on the first team.
