United Reportedly Interested In Bundesliga Defender Edmond Tapsoba

Man United are reportedly showing interest in young Bayer Leverkusen centre back Edmond Tapsoba.

The Burkina Faso international was a hot target for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal but multiple sources including the Express and the Metro are saying both Man United and Champions League winners Chelsea have joined the race for the young starlet.

Tapsoba was an integral part of Leverkusen’s qualification for the Europa League and was a leading figure in the defence that only conceded 39 goals last season, the third lowest in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal were the first English club to put their foot in the door but with the emergence of both the red of Manchester and the blue of London, the deal for the Gunners looks unlikely due to the name value and money of both United and Chelsea.

Reports suggest that while both clubs have made contact with the German outfit, Chelsea are favourites to land the Burkinabe’s signature due to strong relations built off the £70m purchase of Kai Havertz last summer.

However, both English sides are desperate for a centre back with United wanting a solid partner for Harry Maguire while Chelsea will be looking to add to their 5 at the back system with a strong youngster to cover for the ageing Cezar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva.

Tapsoba’s contract with Leverkusen runs until 2026 so despite rising interests in the player, the German club don’t need to sell this summer.
