Alex Fojtíček
Position | Goalkeeper |
Age | 20 |
Club | Manchester United U23 |
Country | Slovakia |
After joining Manchester United ahead of the August deadline in 2016 from his homeland club of Tatran Presov, Alex Fojticek became the first ever Slovakian to represent the reds, an achievement in which he described as ‘an honour, a massive oppurtunity and a really proud moment.’
During his on-going time at United, the Slovakian became one of United’s main players, playing alongside other U23 regulars such as Scott McTominay, Tahith Chong, Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams. Due to this plethora of talented players Alex has had the pleasure of playing with, i was inclined to ask him of some of the best players he’s played with, in which his response was:
‘I have played and trained with many great players. it’s hard to say which one was the best. Mason Greenwood and Angel Gomes are great talents. Wayne Rooney is a legend. David De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also great…it’s man united, there are only great players.’
Alex then went on to speak about the player that he idolised growing up, the Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas, arguably the best goalkeeper in the world when he was growing up when playing for Real Madrid.
As my final question, I asked what he hopes to achieve in his career, to which he responded, ‘I hope to make a living by playing football and i want to work hard every day to be the best i can possibly be!’
