Premier League Clubs Allowed To Name Nine Substitutes This Season
Premier League clubs will be allowed to name nine substitutes for the upcoming 2021/22 season.

This change was first introduced after Project Restart in the 2019/20 season to combat the fixture congestion due to COVID-19.
The league then resorted back to seven subs for the 2020/21 campaign despite European competitions keeping the rule.
In the Premier League handbook, Rule L.28A states that any club in any league match can name nine substitutes this season but are still subject to make only 3 during the match.
However in Law 3 of the Laws Of The Game, clubs are permitted to make two “concussion substitutes” a game which can only be made if a player has recieved a significant head injury and can’t continue for the safety of the player.
This allows the top-flight clubs to name a matchday squad of 20 players for the season. Each Premier League club must register a maximum of 25 players for the campaign with under-21s exempt.
