What is Slowing Down Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United?

June 15, 2025 — Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford’s star forward Bryan Mbeumo has hit a temporary snag, with both clubs yet to finalize the structure and fee of the proposed transfer.

United, keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season, have identified Mbeumo as a top target following his consistent performances and goal-scoring prowess in the Premier League scoring 20 goals last season and providing 8 assists for Brentford. Negotiations between the Red Devils and Brentford are progressing but remain stalled over the final details of the deal. While personal terms with the player are not thought to be an issue and are reported as agreed, the two clubs are still ironing out the payment structure and potential add-ons.

Sources close to the discussions say the final fee is expected to land around £62.5 million, mirroring the recent amount Wolves received from Manchester United for Matheus Cunha—a benchmark that appears to be influencing Brentford’s valuation. They are perhaps seeking a higher figure still and are prepared to wait knowing that the threat of United losing out on Mbeumo could force the Red Devils to bend to their demands.

However, United’s hopes of wrapping up the deal swiftly have been complicated by developments in North London. With Thomas Frank recently appointed as Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager, there is growing concern that Spurs may enter the race for Mbeumo. The Danish coach played a pivotal role in Mbeumo’s rise during their time together at Brentford, and initial contact between Tottenham and the player’s representatives has already been made though no official bid has been lodged yet.

Insiders say the relationship between Mbeumo and Frank could tip the scales, especially if United’s negotiations continue to stall. There is also the fact that Tottenham can offer Champions League football to Bryan this season, something that Manchester United cannot. Also, the potential of staying in London may also be favourable to the player.

As it stands, Manchester United remain in pole position and all reports suggest the deal is close to being agreed between the two clubs, but with the transfer window about to reopen and Tottenham lurking, the race for Mbeumo’s signature could take an unexpected turn in the coming days.

Losing Bryan Mbeumo to Spurs after agreeing personal terms with the player would be a new low in this transfer window after missing out on Liam Delap who joined Chelsea earlier in the window for £30m.

To avoid any disasters, United’s negotiators must move swiftly now with a new sense of urgency to get the deal over the line and confirm a positive start to the transfer Window. Matheus Cunha promises to be a great signing and with the addition of Mbeumo it would be looking a lot better for Manchester United all of a sudden. However, only Matheus Cunha is official.

The plot may thicken if Spurs do go knocking on Brentford’s door but until that moment it seems Manchester United are firmly in the driving seat to capture the signing of Bryan Mbeumo with an agreement with Brentford expected in the coming days.
