Man Utd Youth: Current/Future Prospects

0

With players like Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Fred & McTominay how will our promising under 23’s and under 18’s get promoted to the first team squad. We look at the players who have potentially big futures at the club.

Ole Gunner Solksjaer has introduced some young players into the first team and some would say not enough youth players have been seen this season.  It’s a very fine line of giving a young player game time and destroying their confidence and abilities.

Players Promoted 2019-20 Season:-

Brandon Williams, (left Back).19 years of age, 21 appearances, 1 goal. At a time when Luke Shaw form had dipped Ole made the decision to introduce Brandon against Rochdale in the Carabao cup. Williams has been a sensation and will continue to improve in the coming years, no longer a prospect for me but a real challenger to the left back position and for the England national team. Brandon’s willingness to get forward and tenacity are huge attributes, a utd player through and through. A master stroke by ole and his staff.

Mason Greenwood, (Striker), 18 years of age, 41 appearances, 12 goals. It seems like Mason Greenwood has been around the first team for a few years but it was only in March 2019 that Ole gave him his debut against PSG in the famous win at the ParcDes Princes. This lad is gold, his stats are superb, just over a goal every 3 games, for an 18 year old, that is phenomenal. Greenwood seems to have the knack of creating some magic nearly every game he plays in. Something that doesn’t come along in a footballer very often.  Mason has just been voted the third best teenager in the world. Could grab Rooney’s title of United’s all time record  goalscorer.

Utd First Team Prospects:-

The below players you might not be as familiar with but have great futures at the cluband highly regarded.

There is one player who is on a fast track to United’s first team and United have only just acquired him from Monaco for a record fee of £9m. He has only played 9 youth games, 1 goal, 3 assists. This player is called Hannibal Mejbri.  The 17 year old Frenchman seems as a very similar player to our iconic Eric Cantona.  Mejbri position at the moment is right central midfield but early thoughts are he could well play as the No:10 role.  His silky touch and footballing vision has seen his meteoric rise within the club.  My prediction is, within 2 years, this lad will be playing at Old Trafford.  Mejbri is now regarded at 6th midfield choice at United. Watch this space.

Finally we look at Arnau Puigmal a very classy Spanish holding midfielder. United signed Arnau from Espanyol in 2017 on a free transfer.  19 years old Arnau has played for Spain at under 17, 18, 19 level, scoring goals at all levels.  His possession of the ball is superb, excellent one touch passer.  Puigmal has played 16 times for United at-under 23s and has score 3 times with 1 assist.  The club sees Puigmal as the missing link, that true holding midfield player with the ability of a pass.  It remains to be seen if Puigmal is the lad to succeed but he has a bright future.
