Man Utd VS Chelsea – Player Ratings

A total calamity of an FA Cup semi-final for Manchester United as a team but how did the individuals perform within that ropy performance? Here is my Man Utd player ratings for the game. Do you agree or disagree? Get your ratings in the comments section below!
David De Gea 1/10
He may have made a couple of a great saves against Chelsea yesterday but it was all little too late as two de Gea howlers ultimately cost Manchester United the tie. Too many errors this season and two to his name in this game have caused me to give him the lowest rating I possibly can, well, apart from zero. His poor performance led to United throwing this game away. Time for Sergio? 1/10 a bit harsh? His 2 calamity errors for their goals is the difference to us being level in the tie and being dumped out by a 2 goal deficit. 2 goalkeeper howlers losing an FA Cup semi for our team gets you a 1!
Brandon Williams – 4/10
A pretty torrid first half display saw our 19 year old wing back given the run around and he was clearly targeted as the weak inexperienced link in the side. He struggled to deal with Chelsea in general amongst a struggling United performance but kept on going and made some nice challenges towards the end of the game and never stopped running. Big future but not a big game from Brandon.
Victor Lindelof – 2/10
Wow what a bad game from Victor Lindelof! His awful defending allowed Olivier Giroud in for Chelsea’s first goal which de Gea could have stopped but didn’t. Another error prone game from Victor has contributed to us being dumped out of the cup. Another one to forget for Victor.
Harry Maguire – 2/10
Just like Victor, Harry Maguire was at fault for at least one of Chelsea’s goals, failing to deal with the ball into the six yard box and clear it away, he got it all wrong and turned the ball into his own net. A shaky performance throughout once again highlighting his lack of pace at the back for United and bringing his £80m price tag into question once more. Frankly, a rubbish defensive display in a hugely important game from Man Utd’s captain.
Eric Bailly – 4/10
He didn’t have any real hand in the errors conceding Chelsea’s goals but his reckless play and lack of awareness on a couple of occasions led to Harry Maguire having to be bandaged up like Terry Butcher from a clash of heads, Bailly having to be taken off close to half time with what appeared to be serious concussion! Let’s hope the lad is ok but he’s somewhat of a loose cannon.
Aaron Wan Bissaka – 3/10
AWB has been the most dependable players at United this season for me, but this game one was one to forget for Aaron as it was for pretty much everyone! Perhaps some fatigue finally showing but his display definitely wasn’t up to his own high standards, getting done by Chelsea’s winger for the ball into the box for Maguire’s own goal and generally had a tough time throughout in a really bad team performance.
Nemanja Matic – 5/10
He won the ball a bunch for United in midfield and worked hard for the full 90 minutes. Ultimately he couldn’t do enough to stop United from conceding but never really was responsible for any of the errors that the team made and did his to an ok standard at best.
Fred – 4/10
Struggled to have an impact starting in place of Pogba in this huge game. He showed glimpses of his pre lockdown class winning the ball numerous times but was irratic with his passing and was pulled off the pitch replaced by Pogba not long into the 2nd half, when it was clear he would struggle to give United the spark we needed to ignite a comeback.
Marcus Rashford – 2/10
I barely remember seeing Rashford in this game which shows his lack of impact. The only real chance he had coming from a good bit of wing play down the left getting into the box but unfortunately spraying his shot wide right of Willy Cabalerro’s goal. This was a performance to forget from Marcus. He really struggled to do anything and was a passenger for much of the game.
Bruno Fernandes – 5/10
Our Portuguese Magnifico wasn’t so magnificent against Chelsea yesterday. His passing uncharacteristically wayward and he just generally struggled to influence the game positively like he has done so much since joining in January. He snatched a 5 rating from me for being cool from the penalty spot for United’s consolation goal.
Daniel James – 2/10
James had a good chance today to give Solskjaer something to think about on the right wing by potentially putting in a good display. Unfortunately he barely turned up and although young and inexperienced, we must be concerned by the form that our young Welsh winger is showing. Apart from a couple of good runs in behind, he barely was able to create anything for United of note in another game to forget!
Substitutes
Anthony Martial – 5/10 (on for Bailly 45+2 mins)
Came on for the injured Bailly which forced Solskjaer to change formation and tactic adding another forward on the pitch for a defender. Martial tried for the 2nd half amd did a couple of nice things. Perhaps he should have been awarded a penalty/free kick which referee Mike Dean missed as he darted in behind Zouma and was taken out on once occasion but he also won United’s penalty that was awarded in the 85th minute so he did have a positive impact coming on for the injured Bailly.
Paul Pogba – 3/10 (on for Fred 55 mins)
Very in effective game from Pogba coming off the bench in a struggling team performance if anything he offered us less than Fred who he replaced for the remainder of the game.
Mason Greenwood – 4/10 (on for James 56 mins)
Nothing much to more from Greenwood’s cameo. Quiet.
Timothy Fosu Mensah – N/A (on for AWB 79 mins)
Not much time nothing to note, looked ok.
Odion Ighalo – N/A (On for Rashford 79 mins)
Not much time to have an impact, nothing to note.
There are my player ratings for Man Utd’s 1-3 FA Cup Semi Final loss to Chelsea and the reasons why. Do you agree or disagree? Have your say and post your player tatings below! Thanks!
