Former Man United Defender Antonio Valencia Retires from Football

Former Man United right back Antonio Valencia has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 35.

The Ecuadorian’s time at United will be fondly remembered after his 17 goals in his 217 appearances for the club.

Valencia played both as a winger and more predominatly as a full back for ‘The Red Devils’ during his 10 year career at the club.

Antonio’s career began in 2003 with club El Nacional before moving to Spanish side Villarreal.

His exposure move to Wigan Athletic began with a loan until a permanent move in 2008, a year before he signed for United.

In 2019, now manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer moved him on to L.D.U Quito before he ended his successful career at Queretaro.

Valencia retired a single cap away from a century for his national side Ecuador. He scored 11 goals during his time with the side.

He won two Premier Leagues, three domestic cups, three Community Shields and a Europa League while at United.

He also won the Alan Hardaker trophy, Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and was part of the 2009/10 Premier League Team of the Season.

Antonio Valencia has issued a statement thanking United fans for the support.
