Chelsea In Talks To Hijack Frenkie De Jong Deal

Chelsea are in talks with Barcelona over Frenkie De Jong according to David Ornstein.

Man United have been in all summer for De Jong and have agreed a deal with Barcelona.

However, Frenkie is keen to stay at the Spanish club especially considering he is still owned £17m in deferred wages.

The Dutch midfielder took a pay cut during the Covid-19 pandemic but is due the money back hence why he is hesitant to leave.

Man United are reportedly set to pay Frenkie £375k a week if he joins the club and it is thought that The Blues would need to match that wage.

This would make De Jong the highest paid player at the Club World Champions.

While the 25 year-old is a big fan on his old boss Erik ten Hag, Chelsea having Champions League could be a tipping point if he was to leave Barcelona this summer.

Chelsea, who are in the dawn of a new era under owner Todd Boehly, have already signed Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly and have agreed a deal with Brighton’s Marc Cucurella.

However, The Blues have had their own failures in the transfer window this summer with both targets Raphinha and Jules Kounde signing for Barcelona.

As for The Red Devils, Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez are the newest summer signings but De Jong and Antony remain targets for the club.
