Casey Stoney To Leave Man United Women’s Job

Manchester United Women’s head coach Casey Stoney is to leave her role at the end of the Women’s Super League season.

She was appointed as the first manager of the women’s team in 2018 when United first established the side.

Since then, she has led the club to the WSL in 2018-19 but failure to qualify for Champions League this season played into her decision.

Stoney’s final game in charge will be this Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Leicester.

In a statement made on the club website, she said it was right to “take time away”.

“It has been an honour to lead the women’s team at this great club and this has been an incredibly tough decision” Stoney said.

“Having come on board to start the team from scratch, then winning the Women’s Championship in our first season, we have now established the team as a force in the WSL.

“I have loved leading this group and I am proud of what we have achieved together”.

Reports suggest that Casey was not happy with the club and the facilities she and her players had to work with.

The team moved away from their old training groud, Leigh Sports Village, and began training at Carrington however this supposedly clashed with the men’s team with the women’s team always playing second fiddle.

Man United’s departing club chairman Ed Woodward has said that Stoney would “always be part of the Manchester United family”.

There is no news on who the replacement for Stoney will be.
